The Wine Gang - thewinegang.com 01/01/2013From the ultra-reliable Cavit in Italy's northern region of Trentino, this vibrant, youthful, aromatic red made from the local Teroldego grape smacks of juicy, fresh, dark cherry fruitiness with supple tannins and classic freshness in a primary Italy-meets-Beaujolais style for matching to cold roast meats and honey-glazed ham.
Anthony Rose - The Independent Magazine 12/01/2013Of the 2010 vintage, Anthony Rose said: "Like an Italian Beaujolais thanks to its supple tannins and vibrant fruit quality, this red made from Trentino's teroldego grape is full of fruitiness underpinned by succulence."
Matthew Jukes - Weekend, Daily Mail 12/01/2013Of the 2010 vintage, Matthew Jukes said: "The Finest range can be hit-and-miss but this northern Italian red is a beauty and it's made from a grape I adore but very rarely see in the UK - teroldego. The summer pudding aromas and sleek palate are balanced by a tart, punchy finish that craves pasta dishes with cheesy or meaty sauces."
Jamie Goode - S Magazine, Sunday Express 17/03/2013Of the 2010 vintage, Jamie Goode said: “Lovely bright, sweet, pure black cherry and redcurrant fruit is the dominant theme in this fresh and supple Italian red. It’s a vibrant, very drinkable bottle.”
Olly Smith - Live Magazine, Mail on Sunday 07/04/2013Of the 2010 vintage, Olly Smith said: “Sleek and juicy with tangy fruit, this light-bodied red is a cracker with tomato-based dishes and a good choice for the first barbeque of the year.”
A fairly vigorous indigenous variety present in Trentino since the 1300’s with large, trilobate leaves presenting sharp, irregular indentations. Bunches are pyramidal in shape, of medium compactness with average-sized, round, blue-black berries with fairly resistant bloom-covered skins and juicy pulp
ANSELMO MARTINI
On well-drained terraces in the River Adige and Vallagarina valleys, on a gravelly matrix of alluvial origins and at the foot of alluvial cones on limestone, medium-deep soils with plenty of skeleton.

I originally bought this at under a fiver so I was pleased to find that not only did I have a bargain it was of a quality too that I had hoped for. I've had it when working/holidaying in that area but it's rare to find it available here. The Italians don't seem to be so obsessed with sticking to a relatively few grape varieties like the French. There's always something new to try and this is another of them, bright, fruity, fresh and cherry-like.

First thing that strikes is how smooth it is also very fruity with mouthwatering ripe cherries. There is a slight earthy meaty flavour mixed with chocolate and mild spices giving it a sweet and sour taste. An excellent fruity Italian which is easy to drink and goes well with food, no hesitation in recommending.

I was lucky enough to be a guest at an Italian country wedding near Trento, at which this was the inexhaustively served local wine. I was a little nervous that a UK version would spoil the memory, but I need not have worried. The taste is full, the tannins still present but unobtrusive and the wine has a decent length. A real bargain
