Anthony Rose - The Independent Magazine 08/07/2012Of the 2007 vintage, Anthony Rose said: "Take advantage of Tesco's special offer on this rioja from Baron de Ley, a succulently cherryish pure tempranillo with vanilla and coconut undertones and matured in American oak."
Victoria Moore - The Daily Telegraph 14/07/2012Of the 2007 vintage, Victoria Moore said: "Made for Tesco by Baron de Ley, whose style of Rioja I would describe as modern and patrician. It's made entirely from Tempranillo and aged in American oak which gives it a lick of vanilla. Good value when it's on promo and if you're barbecuing under an umbrella this summer, you might want to open some to keep you cosy."
David Williams - The Observer Magazine 23/09/2012Of the 2007 vintage, David Williams said: "Tesco are having one of their periodic 25% off deals when you buy six bottles this week, and here's one of my favourite wines in the range. It's a sumptuous but soft red, made for the supermarket by Baron de Ley, that is just starting to take on some savoury character underneath the juicy but rich cherry and raspberry fruit, all with a dusting of coconut oak in traditional Rioja style."
Matthew Jukes - Weekend (Daily Mail) 31/03/2012Of the 2007 vintage, Matthew Jukes said: "I am an enormous fan of this producer, and the sultry cherry and vanilla notes in this wine are hypnotic with slow roasted pork."
Olly Smith - Live Magazine, Mail on Sunday 10/02/2013Of the 2007 vintage, Olly Smith said: "I could bathe in this wine, such is its gentle warming glory. Excellent earthy richness, boldly warming with intensity, spice and joy."
Barón de Ley is a winery founded in 1985 by a small group of Rioja wine professionals and who conceived and started a project of innovative and unique characteristics in this prestigious DOCa.
Gonzalo Rodriguez
The original Baron de Ley project was based on the idea of developing a purely "vineyard driven" winery, oriented to the production of high quality wines from its own vineyards. The other main guideline behind the project was to develop and implement a new style of "modern" Rioja wines: wines of deeper colour, structure and concentration, in line with what today's most discerning consumers are looking for. With this objective in mind, the winery specialized in Reserve wines since its beginnings.

Tesco Finest Vina Mara reserva has proved an excellent and approachable wine over the various vintages and is to be commended for an everyday drinking red. Sadly I have now had to return at least a half dozen corked bottles of the 2007 vintage to my local store for replacement. I have written to the powers that be and appreciate that there is little to be done with this bottling, however the producers certainly need to address this problem with future vintages. I will continue to buy this wine on the basis that sound bottles are extremely good.

A good quality 2007 Rioja with a lingering taste. At the offer price of £8.00 it is about right and if lower on sale, would be even better value. Not always the case, this wine is a category up from those at £5.99 and worth the uplift. A more thoughtful drink, this wine will likely last two days rather than one. I bought 2 cases and then another 2.

Given the range of wines we recently purchased, this wine exceeded our expectations on its value for money and smooth fruity taste. Highly recommended.,

For £10 we are spoiled. At least 5x better than the best £5 bottle at Tesco, and I've tried them all.

Starts with a tang of cherry and then spreads over your palette with scents of oak and woodsmoke. Finally comes to rest on a cushion of velvet leaving your ears pleasantly soaking in a brandy vat. Goes very well with Pié d'Angloys cheese or a nice Manchego.

Had hoped to save this for Christmas but my rioja-loving husband spotted it and thought we should check it was OK. It was lovely, very full-bodied and so spicy it was reminiscent of mulled wine. Will certainly enjoy the other 5 bottles, whether we'll share them with anyone else is debatable!!

This is a really nice wine .Soft, round with bags of berry flavour, smoked oak dryness with cherry notes on the finish. We'll be getting some more as part of our Christmas Selection

Red garnet colour with brick like tinges around the edge. Wonderful aromas of sour cherries, vanilla, wood and leather, typical Rioja smells that really cries out 'old world'. Sour cherries, oak and vanilla in abundance, noticeable but elegant tannins, sun baked leather and a rich mouthful make this a beautiful Rioja.

A robust wine that is full of rich flavour ,super to taste and keeps well for a glass or two for the next day if you are able to resist finishing the bottle.

We chose this wine for our wedding after having been given a bottle as a present. It is an excellent wine for the price and everybody commented on the quality of the wine we served. Our thanks go to Tesco for the excellent service we received - they were brilliant on the phone and all went very smoothly.

Best red wine I've had.Very smooth and rounded flavour. I only ever buy when it is half-price, as I refuse to pay full price for any wine but I constantly look out for this one and stock up when it is available.

This is a very good value rioja. I use it as my house wine and love to open every botlle. I am not into vivid descriptions- all I can say is that anyone who has tried it has enjoyed it.
