You can't go normally wrong if you get a) an Appellation Controlee b) discounted to around £5 c) you buy during a '25% off all wines' campaign (to take it down to £3.75) The wine is absolutely fine for the price. I'm glad I bought lots of it.

Wines From France Ctes du Rhne Villages 75cl

This wine is just what you would expect, full bodied and with a flowery finish. I feel sorry that I only ordered 12 bottles, it is on my list for the next time. It is at a good price, you will not be disappointed at all. At the start of this review it says : Warm combination of white pepper from the Grenache, and silky dark plums from the Syrah. Ripe and intense. That sums it up perfectly.

Fantastic value and quality for the price. Anyone who thinks you can't get a good wine for less than £5 should try this immediately.

Excellent value for money for a French wine. Very smooth and a good accompaniment for both red and white meat.

A little young and should improve in the next 12-24 months but nevertheless can be drunk now either as an everyday "quaffing" wine or reserved for that special occasion.

comparatively speaking......

There's little wrong with this wine that keeping it below £5 a bottle would see it forever marked as an exceptional buy. They can charge what they like for anything but ultimately it will come back to value for money for the customer. Being a 'Villages' puts it a cut above other basic Cotes du Rhone, but see that Chateau Beauvoisin Costiere de Nimes that's also grenache and syrah varietals, that's a 4* approacing 5* in my book even when it's not on offer, and the full price of each is only a £ difference. Comparatively speaking that's a no-brainer. If this one here was just around 4 quid a bottle, that would be too!

To big for it's boots

14% alc. WHY? The wine overall isn't bad, and works well with food. But has too much alcohol for this style of wine as the flavours can't stand up to it. Would be good at 12% alc. And only buy at £5, otherwise there are much better wines around of this style.

A most palatable wine. Far better than expected. A warm rich robust wine most suitable with steak and stews. I am particularly fond of the Syrah and Grenache combination anyway. Quality wine at an affordable price.
