Cherry red with good depth of colour and few signs of evolution - Intense nose, with hints of dark fruit, spices and slight toasted nuances - Elegant on the palate with good structure, round, long with a fresh, fruity finish.
This wine can be drunk now but will further improve if carefully stored for up to 5 years
"...I found it beautifully judged and full of fruit with an attractive earthiness, very rioja... I felt this blend of Tempranillo with a little bit of Graciano would drink well over at least the next seven years. The French oak is not too obvious at all (tant mieux) and nor is the 14% alcohol. They say they deliberately pick early enough to retain freshness; the wine seems a bit less dense than their Baron de Chirel bottling. This is the wine that the venerable Marqués de Riscal makes from the old vines on the clay limestone next to their bodega. It was bottled early last year after 18 months in Allier barriques". Jancis Robinson, Jancisrobinson.com November 2012
The Marqués de Riscal winery was created in 1858. Throughout its history, it has always been an innovating, pioneering cellar and reference in a constantly changing winemaking sector. Seeking to make wines which are original, fresh, elegant and easy to drink.
Francisco Hurtado de Amézaga
This wine has been made from Tempranillo and Graciano grapes from the old vineyards surrounding the Torrea estate, where the Marqués de Riscal winery is currently located. The soil is the classic clay limestone of Rioja Alavesa, which has historically provided the best quality wines.
