The Wine Gang - www.thewinegang.com 01/06/2013
Of the 2009 vintage, The Wine Gang said: A full, aromatic, Amarone-style red made using a twist on Ripasso and Amarone techniques to produce a concentrated, velvety mouthful of delicious flavours – dried-cherry, ripe black cherry, cranberry, dark chocolate and sweet almond. There's 5% Sangiovese in the blend, but otherwise it's a conventional Valpolicella blend: predominantly Corvina with Rondinella. Ready now but you could lay it down for eight years.
David Williams - Observer Food Monthly 22/09/2013
Of the 2009 vintage, David Williams said: "The use of some dried grapes, which concentrates the sugars, bring a bittersweet tinge to the cherries and dark chocolate in this light but sumptuous take on Amarone from Italy."
The Allegrini family estate covers 100 hectares of vineyard in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico area. The family has been growing grapes here for several generations, founded by Giovanni Allegrini. When he died in 1983, it passed to his three children, who ran it together until Walter’s death in July 2003. Franco now looks after the vineyards and is the winemaker and Marilisa is director of marketing.
Veneto is a wine growing region in the north of Italy. Palazzo della Torre covers 26 hectares of east-facing vineyard planted between 1962-1989, situated 240 metres above sea level. Allegrini purchased this vineyard in 1978.
