Jane MacQuitty - The Times 24/11/2012
Of the 2012 vintage, Jane MacQuitty said: “The quality of Vergelegen’s whites and reds has not been all that it should be over the past few years, so hats off to Tesco’s Cape wine buyer for winkling out this sizzling Sauvignon Blanc, hand-picked, unoaked and topped with a dash of Semillon. Sauvignon Blanc has long been one of South Africa’s strongest suits and Tesco has always mustered a good range. New in, this waxy, white currant and grass cuttings-stashed Sauvignon is a good buy.”
The Wine Gang - thewinegang.com 01/01/2013
Made by the enfant terrible of the Cape winelands, the irrepressible Andre Van Rensburg at Vergelegen, this new vintage Stellenbosch Sauvignon Blanc (plus a touch of Semillon) shows good varietal typicity of herbal aroma with blackcurrant-leaf undertones and ripe, juicy herbal and gooseberry fruit finishing with verve and zesty freshness.
David Williams - The Observer Magazine 07/04/2013
Of the 2012 vintage, David Williams said: “There’s a green and grassy zip to this punchy dry white from the Vergelegen estate that’ll bring out the freshness of the herbs in the frittata dish.”
Vergelegen, meaning "situated far away", was granted to the Governor of the Cape in 1700 and the property has had a long and fascinating history since that time. During its long history Vergelegen has developed a unique culture. It is embodied in physical properties, in its people and in the more aesthetic traditions handed down over the last 300 years.
