This Gran Reserva from Alicante is a blend of Monastrell and Syrah- With several years ageing in barrel and bottle, it has developed into a full-bodied, mellow wine, ripe with luscious forest fruits and a subtle trace of oak.

To enjoy this wine at its best, drink within 1 year of purchase.
Salvador Poveda is a family run winery and have been making great Gran Reserva wines since 1919.
Located in the south east of Spain, Alicante enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild temperatures throughout the year and little rain. On average the temperature ranges between 16.8 °C (62 °F) and 6.2 °C (43 °F) in January and between 30.6 °C (87 °F) and 20.4 °C (69 °F) in August. Temperature variations are very small due to the influence of the sea.

i was surprised by the mediocre review for this wine as i've bought several cases and i suppose that speaks for itself. as you would expect from a wine thats been aged in oak barrels for eight years, its a highly textured wine with heavy chocolate and fruit flavours - which is to my taste. it's maybe not quite worth the full price but if you see it at the sale price and like similar reds, then for six quid a bottle it's a great wine.

I ordered 6 bottles of this wine. The first was thrown down the sink, it tasted corked. We have just opened a second bottle and again it is undrinkable. It appears to again be corked and I suspect the other 4 bottles will be the same. If they are not corked, this is the worst wine I have tasted in years

I tasted this wine with friends a month or so ago and we were all impressed with the soft fruitiness and port like consistency .The wine was purchased as part of a mixed case and the 2 bottles were quickly consumed. On the strengh of this experience I purchased a further 12 bottles and having sampled a couple was disappointed that the same smooth taste and full bodied feel was not present to the same extent. However this wine is still very drinkable and having purchased it for a fiver a bottle I cannot complain unduly.Perhaps a wine connoisseur from Tesco could explain why wine of the same vintage differs in taste and texture from one bottle to another.

This is the third time I have purchased this wine from Tesco. Something dramatic has changed with this third order. The first two orders were of a reasonably full-bodied deep red wine. This latest version of what is supposed to be the same wine is pale in colour (by comparison) and very medium bodied. I had thought of making a complaint direct to Tesco but have been too busy to do so. This invitation to write a review has prompted me to act!

I had read some of the existing reveiws on this wine about it not tasting the same as the bottle in the mixed case and I must say that I agree with them. I do not claim to know too much about wine, but I do know what I like. The bottle in the mixed case seemed to be more mellow with a fuller flavour almost seeming to be thicker in consistency, which is the bottle I would have given 5 Stars. I also ordered 2 cases based on this premise.

Unfortunately I bought this wine before I read the reviews. Most bottles tasted faintly of corkage and felt bland. This is the first time I have been let down by wine from Tesco and I am surprised this wine is still been offered for sale.

Described as full-bodied, mellow with forest fruits and oak- I have no idea how anyone can reach this conclusion! It is light bodied and unmemorable and I will not be buying any more! I'm glad that I got it as part of a mixed case so I only paid for 2 bottles rather than 6!!!

Like other reviewers, I ordered and enjoyed this wine in the past but a recent purchase of two cases was extremely disappointing. Several bottles were definitely corked and the others taste distinctly 'flat' and 'stale'. I hope Tesco buyers are investigating this as a matter of urgency. In the meantime, there's plenty else out there to enjoy for the same money.

I had a bottle of this in a mixed case and really loved it so ordered 6 bottles. I was very disappointed. Though hardly undrinkable the couple of bottles I tried were nothing like the rich tasting full bodied wine of the original. The contents of these was thin, in now way "mellow" and virtually tasteless. It seemed a completely different wine. Certainly not to be re-ordered

This was the first bottle i tried from a mixed case. Fantastic wine which is good with or without food. Being such a high 13.5% & so full of flavour, one glass was enough (glass was rather large). This wine now in my favourites list.

The first bottle was corked so took the rest back.Others have had similar experiences so maybe Tesco should be more careful in what they select

Unfortunately my case of six had to be returned as the first 2 bottles I opened were corked, so I was very dissappointed as the wine seemed very promising.

Undistinguished, lacking in depth, bitter tannins which I seriously think have no intention of retreating, however long and patiently one might wait. Really makes me wonder how easy it is to attach 'gran reserva' to any old barrel of fermented grape juice.

Loved it ! Lovely taste and flavour. Smooth and easy on the palate. Purchased this as Syrah is a definite favourite of mine. Would recommend this one and will definitely order again.
