Entry to the event. The fee is used to cover the cost of the venue hire & staging of event, barriers, gantry, timing systems race personnel, medical cover etc.
question
I have registered for an event, can I change my mind nearer to the time and participate in a different event on the day?

Yes, as long as you give us at least two weeks’ notice.
question
When will I receive my race numbers?
answer
Click on the links below to find out your race number:
question
I can no longer attend the event, I have been injured etc. Can I have a refund?
answer
Please email triathlon@hesi.co.uk as soon as you realise you wont be able to participate. There is no guarantee that you will be able to get a refund.
question
If I can't have a refund, can I give my entry to someone else?
answer
DEFINITELY NOT!! This causes huge problems to us if entries are swapped around. We must have accurate information on everyone who is competing in the race, otherwise there will be a knock-on effect in the race, insurance, award giving, the results will be wrong etc.
question
Who can enter the Triathlon?
answer
All Tesco staff, contractors and suppliers can enter. Family and friends of staff, contractors and suppliers can enter as well. Please write on the registration form the name of the original invitee & company name of that person, and what your relationship is e.g. spouse, brother etc.
question
Can my spouse or a family member or friends enter the Triathlon?
answer
Yes. Please write on the registration form the name of the ‘original’ invitee and what the relationship is e.g. spouse/partner, child or friend.
question
I work at Tesco as a contractor/I am a Tesco supplier, can I enter?
answer
Yes. Please let us know which department/or company you work in e.g. Commercial, IT, Finance etc, your family and friends can enter too.
question
Does the team event require three people?
answer
Two or three people can make up a team (if someone wants to do two of the three disciplines e.g. Cycle, Swim or Run). Alternatively, if you want to register for just one discipline, we can help you find a team.
question
What does 'Kit' involve this year?
answer
Just a T-shirt, please indicate which size you require on the registration form.
question
I don't have a wetsuit or a bike but would like to take part, what can I do?
answer

A specialist triathlon equipment retailer will be present on the day for support with any technical issues. More detail will be posted here soon.

question
I'm not sure what the venue will be like?
answer
The facility at Dorney Lake, Eton has been praised as a world-class facility and was one of the highlights in London's winning bid to host the 2012 Olympics. It is a flat, traffic free run & cycle track and the freshwater lake is ideal for swimming, having no current/tide etc. Click here to find out more about the venue.
question
Are you arranging accommodation?
answer
No. However, we have asked the Windsor Tourist Information Office for help and they have negotiated some great accommodation deals for anyone entered in the Triathlon. They also have information on what else is happening in Windsor that weekend. To avoid the usual booking fee, please phone the Tourist Information office direct on +44 01753 743909 and quote the special booking code: Tesco 07.

'On the Day' Questions

question
Do I have to wear a helmet for cycling?
answer
Yes. Nobody is excused from wearing a helmet. It has to be a cycling helmet, (no skate boarding, canoeing helmets etc are allowed). Your helmet will be checked for damage and fit at the event. If it fails then you will have to buy a new one.
question
What is the surface I will be running/racing on?
answer
Flat, smooth, tarmac.
question
What is the layout of the course?
answer
A two lap swim to make up the 1,500m and eight lap bike course around the outside of the lake followed by a four lap run along the edge of the lake to cover the 10km. Sprint distance will be half the above number (four laps on bike for the sprint)
question
Can I wear a number belt?
answer
Yes, but your number must be clearly visible at all times otherwise you may be subjected to a two minute penalty as per the British Triathlon Association (BTA) rules. You mustn't fold or cut down your race number in any way. Write any medical information on the back of your number.
question
Do I have to wear a wetsuit?
answer
Yes. We strongly recommend the use of a wetsuit. Not only will a wetsuit keep you warmer in the water, but it will also assist with buoyancy. It does not have to be a full wetsuit – shorty wetsuits are fine if that is your preference. You are advised to try swimming in your wetsuit before race day, and it's also a good idea to practice taking it off when wet!
question
Can I wear my race numbers underneath my wetsuit?
answer
Yes. The race numbers supplied are waterproof and tearproof (don’t worry we don’t expect the event to reduce you to tears). Take care when you put your wetsuit on over the numbers ~ ask a friend to help you. When you take your wetsuit off, your numbers should remain intact, provided you have pinned them securely in all four corners.
question
You've got my age group wrong.
answer
Your age group is determined by your age at December 31, and not your age on race day (in accordance with BTA rules).
question
Can my friend/husband/wife/coach/mum/dad/children/pets etc come into the transition area with me?
answer
NO, DEFINITELY NOT! Only competitors wearing the security wristband will be allowed into transition area.
question
What happens after the event?
answer
The races should finish around 4:30pm at which point you can retire to the bar for a well earned drink.
question
What awards can be won?
answer
There will be awards for the top three places in each event.
question
What is there for children and spectators to do?
answer
Loads of fun stuff - including:
Go Karts, Bungee run, Fun Surf, Gladiator Joust, Pillow Bash, Junior Sumos and a Bouncy Castle. There will also be a Scoot-athlon (they run, have a scoot and run again) which they can join on the day. They will have to bring their own scooter & helmet though. See About the Event for details on ages etc.
