The Tesco magazine Mum of the Year Awards ceremony is a truly inspirational occasion – and this year as always it was both moving and heart-warming. On these pages you can find out about the extraordinary women who received our awards and read their amazing stories.

Meet Jane Gates who set up Sebastian’s Action Trust, in memory of her little boy, which helps other families in similar situations; Lynsey Findlay, raising funds to make massive improvements to a special needs school; Dianne Preston, giving tender care to babies born addicted to drugs; Maria Angel working to improve her local community; Grace Idowu campaigning tirelessly against knife crime; Nikki Dawson endlessly encouraging people to join the NHS Organ Donor register; Sheryl Carty making life better for youngsters with impaired vision; Jackie Smith, providing a huge helping hand to disadvantaged young women and nominated by Real Radio listeners; and Sabina Iqbal, improving the lives of others like her – a deaf parent to hearing children.

Each year we look out for women who've shown incredible bravery and dedication or who have campaigned tirelessly to help others or inspired others beyond belief for our awards – and this year as ever these wonderful women have shown that they can turn what they have learned as mums into care and support for others in real difficulties and transform tragedy into triumph.

Our thoroughly deserving winners all enjoyed a glamorous day out in London at our star-studded awards ceremony. They met a host of celebrities and were wined, dined and pampered – treated as the very special ladies that they truly are – see our picture gallery of their fabulous day here.
