Holidays for grown-ups
For a break without the kids, try these three destinations
India For the ultimate sun holiday
It was once a haven for hippies and Goa has kept its laid-back vibe. South Goa is quieter and has some beautiful beaches including Palolem beach. If it's nightlife you're after then North Goa is a bit livelier. And for shopping and souvenirs try the famous Saturday night market in Arpora.
The city of Jaipur has magnificent forts and buildings, built from pink sandstone, which is why it is called the Pink City of Rajastan.
Agra is home to the Taj Mahal, regarded as one of the most majestic buildings in the world. Located in a garden on a bank of the River Yamuna, early morning is a great time to see the Taj Mahal as its marble reflects a red glow from the sunrise.
Getting there
Goaway has a 10-day tour of Goa beach, Jaipur and the Taj Mahal from £899. This includes accommodation, based on two sharing; international flights from Gatwick or Manchester; airport transfers; domestic flights from Goa to Jaipur; a private car with a driver, and a local guide for sightseeing, both of whom are English speaking. Istanbul Combine urban chic with culture
Istanbul is built on seven hills, and is surrounded by water so a boat trip is a great way to take in the stunning views.
The Sultanahmet district is the oldest part of Istanbul, and home to the Aya Sofya, the Church of Divine Wisdom and Topkapi Palace, which houses the legendary Harem.
The city has lots to offer by night. Just beyond Taksim Square, in the heart of the modern part of Istanbul, is the Beyoglu area, which after dark comes alive with many vibrant bars and clubs.
A trip to Istanbul wouldn't be complete without some retail therapy. The Grand Bazaar, with over 1,000 shops to choose from, has lots of Turkish goodies to buy.
Getting there
Pegasus flies to Istanbul from Stansted, from £39·99 one way, taxes and charges included. See www.flypgs.com.
The Lush Hotel (www.lushhiphotel.com) starts from £44·50 per person per night, based on two people sharing. And for more information visit www.gototurkey.co.uk.

Tobago A romantic getaway
The Coco Reef resort in Tobago is set in 10 acres of tropical gardens. It is situated on the far west of the island, between two of Tobago's most stunning beaches, Store Bay and Pigeon Point. The beachfront hotel also has its own private white sandy beach, Coconut Bay, perfect for sunbathing.
You can unwind, enjoy the peace and quiet, and take advantage of the opportunity to spend quality time together by going snorkelling in the crystal-clear waters. Or indulge in a spa treatment at the resort or simply enjoy a relaxing afternoon tea, overlooking the ocean.
If you fancy venturing outside the resort there is plenty to keep you busy. Try exploring Fort Milford, on the most westerly tip of the island. Visit Buccoo Reef, a protected marine park, famous for its sea life and coral reef. Enjoy Tobago's natural beauty with a hike through the lush rainforest reserve in the east, protected since 1776. Or take a trip to the little fishing village of Charlotteville, in the northeast, where fishermen sound conch shells to announce the day's catch.
Getting there
