Beach essentials

Essential beach products

Sore, sunburned skin is never glamorous so get your suncare right. Choose a lotion, rather than a spray, because you can control where it goes on and are less likely to miss patches of skin. Try Tesco Soleil Beauty Hydrating Light Milk SPF25, £6/200ml (£3/100ml). When it comes to beach make-up the golden rule is less is more. A coat of waterproof mascara, such as Rimmel Glam'Eyes Waterproof Mascara, £6·98 will open up the eye area and keep the lashes looking luscious and smudge-free after a swim. And don't forget your hair – shield it from the damaging and fading effects of sun, sea and chlorine by spritzing on McAdam Thermal Protect & Shine Spray, £3·47/150ml (£2ยท31/100ml), and then scrape your locks back into a chic ponytail.

Amelia Rose Washbag

Pack your poolside essentials in a splash-proof beach
bag with a pretty pattern such as Tesco Amelia Rose Drawstring Washbag, £1·47. It will improve your beach cred and it's roomy enough to hold all you need.

Smudge resistant

Resist and Shine

Stay looking cool when the temperature soars with these long-lasting formulas that leave your make-up melt-free and gorgeous. A touch of lip-gloss looks dazzling against a bronzed complexion. Try Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze, £7·99, which stays put for up to eight hours. Vibrant nails are a holiday necessity, paint yours with L'Oréal Resist & Shine UV Colour Protect Nail Polish, £4·74, as its shock absorbent formula retains shine for longer.

Q&A

Olay Regenerist

I have tried lots of anti-ageing creams, but can't seem to find one that makes a difference to my wrinkles.
Jackie Coles, Flintshire

Get your hands on a pot of Olay Regenerist 3 Point Treatment Cream (see in store for details). It's the latest wonder cream to hit the shelves and, although it feels luxurious and is also packed with a powerful wrinkle-busting formula of penta-peptides and vitamins, it's much more affordable than the premium brands.

A less pricey alternative is Skin Wisdom Age Reverse Day Cream, £8·47/50ml (£16·94/100ml), which contains a time-fighting blend of skin-protecting red clover, antioxidant-rich vitamin E, and retinol to help reduce wrinkles.

Flight fantastic

Touch down looking your best by following our top tips
to flight-proof your skin.

  • Drink lots of water 24 hours before you take off to prevent dehydration.
  • Cabin air is incredibly dry so slather plenty of moisturiser, a hydrating facemask or even a rich night cream on to your face, neck and hands, followed by an eye cream and lip balm.
  • Resist the alcohol trolley. Sip water and fruit juice instead.
  • Before landing, use some cleansing wipes to freshen up the complexion. Then, for
a healthy glow smooth on a tinted moisturiser, a slick of mascara and a touch of lip-gloss.
  • When you reach your destination, exfoliate from face to toe to help shed dead skin, perk up the complexion and leave you with a silky smooth canvas to tan.
