Rescue my tummy

Happy girl

If a child is suffering with a stomach upset it's vital to keep them hydrated, especially if they are under five. A new report** recommends giving kids water, not fruity or fizzy drinks, and to continue feeding babies as normal. Don't give them diarrhoea medicines, and if they have signs of dehydration consult your doctor about rehydration drinks.

Mama mia

Mama Tens

Did you know that you can hire a Mama TENS machine for six weeks for only £27·50 from Tesco pharmacies? Providing safe pain relief during labour from the very first contraction, it can be used at home and in hospital. It works by transmitting gentle electrical impulses through your skin via four adhesive pads, positioned on your back. For rental details go to www.tesco.com/health, call 01372 723 434 or visit a pharmacy in store near you.

Buzz off bugs

To avoid bites and stings this summer keep an eye out for horseflies, mosquitoes, midges, bees and wasps.

Don't let the kids walk barefoot through long grass, and protect them with repellents that annoy as many types of species as possible.

If a sting does occur, carefully remove it as soon as posible, without squeezing, to reduce the amount of venom – don't grab it with your fingers. Clean the area and apply a cold compress.

Keeping in the shade

The sun can cause as much lasting damage to our eyes as it can to our skin. So it is important to have good quality protection from ultraviolet rays for them. Prescription sunglasses allow you to read, drive and sunbathe without continually swapping your glasses. This year Tesco Opticians has increased its range of fashionable styles, to include the likes of Morgan, Gant and Truth.

Sunglasses

Available with and without prescription lenses, prices range from £20-£40, for the frames alone. The fully glazed service, which includes prescription lenses, a tint and UV coating, is only an extra £80, and you can use Clubcard points to help you pay.
