Getting green aware
Rowan Roberts, 45, says, 'At school my
daughter Lucy learnt about climate
change, taking care of the planet and the
importance of recycling – all messages
that she brought home and we've tried
gradually to include into our lives. And
we do recycle and walk rather than
driving short distances, but there's

probably more we could do as a family to limit our impact on the environment.
What should I suggest we could add next into our day-to-day routines?'

The advice
'One way of lowering your impact or of reducing your family's carbon emissions is to look at what
you use in the home. For instance you could encourage Lucy to check out the 'greener' ranges of
products for cleaning the house, kitchen and bathroom, and for doing the laundry,' says Tracey
Smith, green living expert. 'As a bonus lots of these products also come in packaging that can be
recycled and so using them could definitely contribute to lessening the whole family's energy con-
sumption and day-to-day effect on the planet.'

The verdict
'It's funny how you often think you know better than your parents,' says Lucy. 'But I didn't really
think about using these kinds of products in the house until Mum suggested that this would be a
great way of improving our approach to "greener", responsible living.'
