Roasted figs with cinnamon and orange

What to do

  • Preheat the oven to Gas 4, 180°C, fan160°C. Cut the figs in half and place in a shallow roasting dish.
  • Dot the figs with butter and sprinkle with demerara sugar and cinnamon.
  • Pare off a strip of orange rind and add to the dish. Squeeze the juice from the orange. Pour over figs.
  • Scrape the seeds from the vanilla pod and put to one side. Nestle the vanilla pod in with the figs. Bake them for 15 minutes until tender.

  • 15g (½oz) butter
  • 1tbsp demerara sugar
  • pinch ground cinnamon
  • 1 orange
  • ½ vanilla pod

Top tip
You could mix a few of the vanilla seeds and 1-2 teaspoons icing sugar into 200ml (7fl oz) crème fraiche and chill it. This is delicious served with the hot figs.
