Getting kids equipped for the future

With the new Tesco for Schools & Clubs it's even easier for kids to have all the facilities they need to steer them on the right path

Throughout last year Tesco asked you how it could make its existing voucher even better. And here’s the result – the launch of the Tesco for Schools & Clubs. Tesco is merging its already successful Computers for Schools and Sports for Schools & Clubs initiatives to create a brand new catalogue.

Collecting and redeeming vouchers has become much easier. Now you just have to collect one type of voucher, which is redeemable against anything from laptops and art paper to footballs and frisbees.

Unbelievably, it’s been 18 years since Tesco first launched Computers for Schools. When it started, the average secondary school had 15 computers, compared to 270 in 2008. So thanks to you, Tesco has given away more than £127 million of equipment in that time and enabled computers to become more widely accessible to schools across the UK. And since the launch of Sport for Schools & Clubs in 2005, Tesco has given away £26m worth of sports gear throughout the UK.

Thousands of schools and clubs across the UK have benefited, such as Milestone School in Gloucester. Helen Brown, physical development leader, says, ‘We really couldn’t have run our PE department without all the equipment we have received.’ And Julie Boyd, head teacher of Ballymoney Independent Christian School, says, ‘We are a very small school and schemes such as this are really invaluable.’

How to collect your vouchers

This year’s catalogue is full of lots of great products, including a wide range of innovative, hands-on equipment and resources to choose from. The catalogue covers the curriculum and is split into five key themes: Information Computer Technology; Sports & Health; Green Schools; Basic Skills and Creativity.

Anyone shopping in Tesco can start collecting for this year’s scheme from 2 March. Tesco customers get one voucher for every £10 spent in store (one voucher for every £5 spent at Express stores), which can be passed on to any school or club of their choice. And the recipients can exchange them for free equipment. Schools and clubs will be able to order equipment for the autumn school term until 3 July 2009.
