Andy Sagar, Kingsland Wines and Spirits

I’m Andy Sager the Managing Director of Kingsland Wines and Spirits. Kingsland are the permier independent supplier of wine into the UK wine trade. We have been, operating as a site for over 100 years in manufacturing. We commenced trading with Tesco in about 1999 when they approached us to do some Australian bottling and the business really bottled and our relationship with Tesco went from strength to strength. We went through a phase where they actually asked us to do a screw cap initiative with them what they wanted to do was to change the consumer perception of the screw cap so we set about a project called unwind which was very successful. From there they actually did a value chain analysis which they called brave new worlds we went about that, we are very successful in tendering for that business and basically from there we now bottle all Tesco own label business. Another key green initiative is the waste reduction action programme, commonly known as wrap. Glass is the biggest, single contributor to the packaging weight past on into customers and the initiative we have got basically is to glass light weight bottles in the wine trade and this has lead to a significant initiative where we have actually achieved an estimated 4100 tonnes reduction in carbon emissions on this particular programme and this is working with both Tesco and our glass supplier. We have a passion for the business no doubt about that and really the hard work has paid off with receiving the Tesco value award for wine for 2006 last year.
