Terrence Eastham, Local Employments Partnerships, Oldham
Hello I’m Terry Eastham. I’ve managed to get a job on the trolleys and there's a lot of people I’ve got to thank! Because at the age of fifty nine I was made redundant after twenty two years in this factory. I thought I could get another job, but, no! I was too old! People just didn’t want to know. Then, the Job Centre put me in touch with this course and I’ve not looked back. Tesco have taken me on, I’m over the moon! You know, It’s brilliant!
I thought, “we’re finished”, no, it’s just started again. I’m really looking forward to it!

James Brown, Local Employments Partnerships, Oldham
Hi, good morning, my name is James Brown. I'm to be taken on by Tesco at Failsworth at the counter unit, I’m going to be a butcher. My story is, since last October I’ve been on incapacity benefits and we were the first people recruited by Tesco, to help with the new area in Oldham regeneration shall I say. Since October I’ve been on the sick and in February, I went to an open day in the Indian Temple in Oldham where Tesco were recruiting. From there, I’ve been on courses with Oldham College on; hospitality, Health & Safety, Hygiene, etc. This has helped me to build up my confidence and now I’m to be taken on on July the 16th, for training in the butchery department. Then on to Tesco Failswoth on the 31st of July.
Jessica Keller & Vanessa O’Neil, Local Employments Partnerships, Oldham
Hi I’m Jessica Keller, I’ve recently started a training programme with Eye to Eye in Oldham. I started the training programme about thirteen weeks ago. I found about the training programme because a leaflet got posted through the door and I phoned up, went for an interview and then they asked me to come along. I’m going to be a “Customer Assistant” at Tesco in Failsworth store and I’m very happy to start there!
My Name is Vanessa O’Neil, I’ve been unemployed about eight years previous to getting the same leaflet. Went along to the interview and actually find out I got the job, I was really chuffed! And I’m due to be in Health & Beauty and I’m really excited about starting.

Julian Downer, Local Employments Partnerships, Oldham
Ok, I’m Julian Downer, I’ve been out of work for four years. I’m an ex-actor. I got the opportunity to work for Tesco through the Partnership, which is a great opportunity and I’ve achieved a position as a Baker in the new store in Failsworth. I’ve started my training and I’m really enjoying it. I just hope it continues, It’s never been better.
Sharon Stanway, Local Employments Partnerships, Oldham
Hiya, my name is Sharon Stanway. I was made redundant just before Christmas. Worked at the local Factory Failsworth Hats, made hats, made hats for Ricky Hatton. Unfortunately, I got made redundant just before Christmas and heard about the scheme regarding Tesco’s recruitment. I thought, I put myself in for an interview. I’ve never had an interview before, but I felt so relaxed when I had the interview. I got the job, I was over the moon. The training scheme has been fantastic, met loads of great people, lovely lovely people and I’m really looking forward to start at Tesco for just the experience, meeting people, dealing with people’s problems rather than just sitting there making hats.
