Tesco Finest Camembert works a treat for this recipe as it has an all-wooden box. If the cheese you choose hasn’t then transfer it to a small ovenproof dish and bake it in that instead.

Ingredients

  • 1 Camembert cheese
  • 2 Cloves garlic
  • 3 tbsp Dry white wine
  • A few sprigs of fresh thyme
  • Cocktail gherkins
  • Silverskin onions
  • Peppadew peppers
  • Cubes of bread, Breadsticks

Method

Camembert

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/Fan 160°C/Gas Mark 4.
  2. Remove the Camembert from the box; if the box is just glued, staple the seam or it will come apart in the oven.
  3. Line the inside of the box with foil, then place the cheese
  4. Cut the garlic lengthways into eighths so you have spike shapes.
  5. Use a knife to make incisions in the top of the cheese, then poke the garlic into the holes.
  6. Drizzle the wine over the cheese then scatter over the thyme.
  7. If liked, you can chill the cheese again now until you are ready to bake it.
  8. Bake the cheese on a baking sheet for 15 minutes.
  9. Place in the centre of a large plate and surround with gherkins etc. for your guests to dip into the hot, runny cheese.
