Petrol Questions

We want to apologise to any customers who have experienced problems with our fuel due to contamination and for any inconvenience that this has caused. We promise to deal with problems caused by our petrol quickly. We will of course pay for any necessary repairs and we can provide other reasonable assistance (such as a hire car or travel expenses).

Which stores were affected?

Through our rigorous testing programme, we know that a limited number of stores, broadly in the South East of England, were affected by contaminated fuel, and only on certain days. Please click here to see the list of stores.

What do you do now?

If you have already written to us with details of your problem, you need not do anything further at this stage. We intend to start processing claims this week and will act as fast as we can. We will contact you as soon as we can.

If you have not yet taken your car to a garage, please contact us on 0800 028 6428 and we will explain the support we can offer and the process you need to follow.

What about receipts for fuel purchase?

We need as much proof of purchase as possible to help us process claims quickly. Ideally this will be a receipt from our petrol station. If you do not still have this but paid by card, then please try to get proof from your credit card company or bank. If you paid cash, then please supply us with details of the amount, time and date of purchase and petrol station used. If you used your Clubcard during the purchase, then please give us the number and we can use this information to process your claim more quickly.

What about costs incurred as a result of car problems?

We want to help you get back to normal as quickly as possible and support you through any inconvenience caused by Tesco petrol. We will pay your necessary repair bills if the damage to your vehicle has been caused by Tesco petrol, and we can provide other reasonable assistance (such as a hire car or travel expenses). Please call us on 0800 028 6428 to discuss what support we can offer you.

What about getting your car checked because you’ve experienced some problems?

The first thing we would suggest is that you check whether the petrol station at which you fuelled was an affected petrol station. Please click here for the list of stores.

If it was, you must decide if you think it is necessary to have your car checked by a mechanic. If you do get it checked, and a problem is found, caused by our petrol, we will of course pay for any necessary repairs to your car.
