From the crisp Sauvignon Blancs of New Zealand to the lesser known grape varieties of Italy, we can promise you wines of great quality and value. We work closely with our suppliers and their winemakers to create classics, find the next trend, and discover the quirky and unknown varieties that make wine a world to be explored. We take great care over our own label ranges, and I would like to highlight in particular the Finest* range below:
The Finest* range of wines were introduced in Tesco over 12 years ago, and we now have over 100 in the range. I have been selecting and blending and creating them for more than 2 years, and am immensely proud that our customers love the range, and use it to explore new wines, and discover great quality old favourites. The basic requirement is the best quality we can find, and that the winemaker is happy to put his or her signature on the label. We have a broad range of classic wines which reflect their origin or grape variety, and we have introduced new varieties and regions, many of which have been copied by others.
The bedrock of the Finest* range is the classic wines, such as Crozes Hermitage, Hunter Valley Semillon and Chablis 1er Cru. We have close, long term relationships with many of our suppliers, who understand not only the quality we are looking for, but the style we prefer year after year. Our Finest* Barolo is a deliberately traditional style, from family winemakers Ascheri, who have produced our Barolo from the beginning. Many of our classics consistently win medals and awards at the competitions each year. It is always rewarding when your wines win acclaim from the experts in the wine industry. Many of my favourites are some of the more unusual wines, such a Picpoul de Pinet – a fantastic crisp dry white from the south of France that cries out for a bowl of mussels; or St Mont, a tiny appellation which grows grapes such as Arrufiac and Petit Corbu, and makes a deliciously fresh white with lots of flavour – perfect for the Chablis lovers amongst you. How many people have tasted Teroldego – a red grape from the mountains in the north of Italy? Many of you have discovered grapes such as Fiano and Falanghina from Italy through trying our Finest* examples.
Our passion is wine, and it is my privilege to be able to share it with our customers. If you don’t want to take our word for it, then read the ratings and reviews from other customers and send us your feedback.Close
