Here you'll find everything you need to know about Pay as you go with free credit.  Find out how to triple your credit, when you receive free credit each month, what free credit can be used for, and much more.

How it works

I have topped up X amount this month how much free credit am I due?


Top-up

Your free credit lasts for one month (and you get free credit only once each month).
For example, if you get your first free credit on 5th January, you've got until midnight on the 4th February to use it.

When you start using a new SIM (or if you have missed your last monthly anniversary date and are topping-up to restart your free credit) only the first top-up will count towards that month's allowance.

Example: You top-up with £10 at 10:30am and then top-up a further £10 on the same day at 10:50am. You'll receive £10 free credit on your monthly anniversary date (not £40 free credit). The second £10 will be counted towards next month’s free credit so you won’t miss out.

Your free credit automatically gets used first.
For UK calls and texts, picture messages and browsing, your free credit gets used up before the top-up you paid for, which never expires.

It's your total top-up in a month that counts for how much free credit you’ll receive next month.

Can I change back to my original tariff?
Because Pay as you go with free credit is such great value, we no longer allow moving back to old tariffs 

How do I triple my credit?
You triple your credit on £15 and £20 top-ups.  Top-up £15 in a month and you get £30 of free credit, tripling it to £45 credit.  Top-up £20 in a month and you get £40 of free credit, tripling to £60 of credit.

How do I find out how much free credit I have left?
Text the word BALANCE to 2112.  The text is free to send and you’ll send a free text back immediately telling you how much you’ve got left.  You can use this free service any day at any time.

I’m a Tesco Mobile customer but not benefiting from Pay as you go with free credit, how do I join?
Call 284 free from your Tesco Mobile phone to join, or click here and log in to My Tesco Mobile.

Will my call charges change if I move to Pay as you go with free credit?
If you're moving from our Standard tariff, no they won't.

If you're on any other tariff, just call 284 free from your Tesco Mobile and if you choose to move, we’ll tell you all the details you need to know before you make your final decision.

My free credit

How do I find out how much free credit I have left?
Text the word BALANCE to 2112.  The text is free to send and you’ll send a free text back immediately telling you how much you’ve got left.  You can use this free service any day at any time.

Why isn’t the free credit showing on my phone?
Only the credit you pay for (with a top-up) shows on your balance.  Text the word BALANCE to 2112 to find out how much credit you have left.  The text is free to send and you’ll send a free text back immediately telling you how much you’ve got left.  You can use this free service any day at any time.

I’ve just moved to Pay as you go with free credit; when do I get my free credit?
If you’ve just moved to the tariff, and you’ve topped-up on the same day, you’ll get your free credit within 48hrs and we’ll send you a text to let you know it’s been added.

Note, you must top-up on the same day as you choose to move to the tariff in order to get free credit within 48 hours.

Does free credit last forever?
Free credit lasts until your next monthly anniversary date and any unused credit expires.  Don’t worry, if you’ve topped-up then you’ll receive free credit again next month, starting from your monthly anniversary date.

All the credit you’ve paid for with your top-up does not expire.

How do I find out when I need to top-up by to get free credit next month?
The date you need to top-up by is called your monthly anniversary date, and you can find out your monthly anniversary date by texting DATE to 28746 free to check their monthly anniversary date.

Alternatively you can call 28746 free to hear the same information.

You need to top-up before your monthly anniversary date in order to get free credit starting from that date.

I have topped up on my monthly anniversary date - why haven’t I received my free credit?
You need to top-up before your monthly anniversary date.  Don’t worry, you’ll still be given free credit within 48 hours and we’ll send you a text to let you know your new monthly anniversary date

I topped-up before deciding to move to the ‘Pay as you go with free credit’ tariff.  Will I still receive my free credit?
You must request to move to Pay as you go with free credit before topping-up.

You can request to move by:

• Calling 284 free from your Tesco Mobile phone
• Click here and log into My Tesco Mobile
• Texting the word CREDIT to 28745 free

Why am I being charged when I have free credit?
Free credit can be used on:

• UK calls to standard UK landline and UK mobiles
• Includes UK calls starting 01, 02, 03 numbers only 07 (with exceptions below)
• UK SMS to UK mobiles
• MMS (Long text, Picture and Video messages)
• UK mobile internet browsing
• UK to UK Video calls
• UK calls to Customer Service
• UK calls to Voicemail

You’re charged for the following:
• Calls made whilst on holiday abroad (roaming)
• Calls / text made to any international number from the UK.
• Premium rate calls or Directory Enquiries.
• 08 numbers max call charge of 20p per minute
• 070 personal numbers maximum call charge of cost 50p per minute from a Tesco Mobile.
• Traffic Line.
• Ping me a Pound.

And also:
• Calls to any number ranges which Tesco Mobile reasonably believes are being used for call forwarding services, onward calling services or numbers that pay a revenue share.
• Calls to any of the numbers starting with the prefixes below:

06, 07744, 0845, 079112, 070, 07755, 0870, 079118, 076, 078255, 0871, 079245, 0500, 078730, 077000, 079246,
0505, 07892, 07755, 079879, 0808, 078930.

My monthly anniversary date

What is a monthly anniversary date?
A monthly anniversary date is the date by which you have to use up any free credit you have left.

Your monthly anniversary date is also the date you need to top-up before, so you get free credit next month.

What is my monthly anniversary date?
You can find out your monthly anniversary date if you call 282 free from your Tesco Mobile phone or click here and log in to My Tesco Mobile.

If I don’t top-up before my monthly anniversary date, or don’t top up for a while, what will happen?
Well, we’ll send you a text 5 days before your monthly anniversary date (if you haven’t topped-up) to remind you, so hopefully that won’t happen.

And don’t worry, if you don’t top-up you can still carry on using your phone as normal – you just won’t be benefiting from free credit.  Remember, the credit you pay for never expires.

You’ll be given free credit again when you next top-up, and this will be added within 48 hours.  The date your free credit is given again will then become your new monthly anniversary date for the following month.   Don’t forget, you can call 282 free at any time to find out your monthly anniversary date.

Other FAQs

What happens to my old tariff when I move to Pay as you go with free credit?
When you request to move to Pay as you go with free credit you’ll be moved within 48hrs.  Any minutes or texts you have remaining with your old tariff, and any differing call rates, are replaced with the Pay as you go with free credit tariff.

Any favourite numbers you have set up, or any calls and texts bundles you pay for, will stay on your account and will move with you.

You can’t move back to your old tariff.

I’m a Tesco Mobile customer but not benefiting from Pay as you go with free credit, how do I join?

Will my call charges change?
