Product offer.

Tesco is always exploring international opportunities for buying new and different products.

Products arrive in Tesco stores from all over the world, providing customers with the most varied choice of any national supermarket chain. Tesco offers lobsters from Newfoundland, lychees from the Far East, buffalo meat from Calgary, fresh flowers from Holland and avocado pears from Mexico. Convenience food is a growing, innovative area which offers products consistent with modern family lifestyles. This year, Tesco introduced 2,500 new own-label products, including 500 health and beauty items, to bring the total number of different items available in most stores to 17,000.

Home-produced goods are also very important. Tesco is committed to buying British, whether from large-scale growers of fruit and vegetables or from small, specialist suppliers who preserve the best of British culinary heritage. Products in this premium range include sausages, pork pies and puddings.

The Best of British campaign was launched in 1994 to show the diversity and strength of home-produced goods and encourage customers to buy more British products. As part of the campaign, Tesco sponsored the British Cheese Awards, launched to recognise the excellence of the national product. We further supported the awards by extending our range to over 100 British cheeses.
