Sir Ian MacLaurin,
who is 58, was appointed Chairman of Tesco in 1985. He joined Tesco as a management trainee in 1959 and was appointed to the Board in 1970. He became Managing Director in 1973 and Deputy Chairman in 1983. Sir Ian is a non-executive director of Guinness plc, National Westminster Bank Plc and Gleneagles plc.
Rowley Ager,
who is 49, was appointed to the Board of Tesco in 1992. He joined Tesco in 1986
from B.A.T Industries plc, and became Company Secretary of Tesco in 1990. He is a non-executive
director of Colleagues Group plc and Oasis Stores Ltd.
Victor Benjamin,
who is 60, was appointed a part-time executive director of Tesco in 1982 and
became Deputy Chairman in 1983. He has been with Berwin Leighton, the company's solicitors,
for 30 years. He is also Deputy Chairman of Lex Service PLC, Chairman of Beazer Homes Plc and
on the board of Gartmore plc.
Tim Mason,
who is 37, was appointed to the Board on 6 February 1995. He joined the company in
1982 and held a number of marketing and buying positions until 1990 when he became a Regional
Managing Director. In 1993 he became Marketing Operations Director of Tesco Stores Ltd.
David Malpas,
who is 55, was appointed Managing Director of Tesco in 1983. He joined Tesco in
1966 and was appointed to the Board in 1979. He is a member of the Welsh Development Agency
and is also a non-executive director of Perkins Foods plc and Kleinwort High Income Trust plc.
Lesley James,
who is 45, was appointed to the Board on 6 February 1995. She joined Tesco in July
1985 as Regional Personnel Manager and became Personnel and Training Director of Tesco Stores
Limited in December 1993. She previously worked for SavaCentre, Sketchley and Rank Hovis
McDougall.
Terry Leahy,
who is 39, was appointed to the Board of Tesco in 1992. He joined the company in
1979 and held a number of marketing appointments until 1986 when he became Commercial
Director of Fresh Foods for Tesco Stores Limited.
David Reid,
who is 48, was appointed to the Board of Tesco in 1985, having joined the company in
the same year. He is responsible for finance, distribution, stock control and systems. He is a non-
executive director of Westbury plc and Greenalls plc.
