Once you've placed your grocery order online there's a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to get your shopping to you. We have a team of people who work to make this service possible, our personal shoppers who hand pick every item according to your instructions, our packers who carefully pack your products and our drivers who drive the groceries to your house and deliver direct to your door (even your fridge door if you like). And in order to make sure that we deliver your chosen produce to you in the best condition, we have temperature controlled storage both in the store and the vans. All of these elements and more make up our service charge.
We have changed our service charges so that they vary by time of day as well as by day of week; however the average service charge has remained the same. 35 slots have increased, 36 have decreased and 11 have stayed the same. No individual slot has increased by more than 76p, but some slots have reduced by as much as £1.
Tesco are committed to improving the service for our customers. At present, there are some popular slots in the week which become full very quickly. We are aiming to have more choice of slots available more of the time. In addition, by spreading out the orders across the week and throughout the day, it enables us to deliver a better service to our customers.
We are also committed to the environment and an additional benefit of this change is that through encouraging customers to book slots where we have spare capacity, we can deliver orders using fewer vans, thereby reducing vehicle emissions.
