Want a sneaky preview? Here are just a few of ourhealthy lifestyle tips from our booklets to give you a kick-start:
- Floss for great teeth. Over 72% of us have plaque which can lead to gum disease, so flossing should be a part of your daily dental routine. For a really thorough clean, gently slide the floss between your teeth and follow the contours of the gap all the way around and down to the gumline, so that you hook out any debris.
- Ad break star jumps. Get off that sofa and do some star jumps during TV ad breaks! If you weigh 64kg (10 stone), you'll burn off 14 calories a minute. Breaks last 3 minutes on average, so 12 breaks in a night's viewing means 504 calories burned.
- Steam your veg. Research has shown that fresh broccoli loses up to 97% of its three key antioxidants when microwaved, but just 11% if steamed for 3-5 minutes.
- Iron it out – If you’re feeling washed out and irritable you could be running low on iron. Try perking yourself up with iron-rich foods such as red meat, pulses, dark green vegetables, dried apricots and fortified breakfast cereals.
- Just two brazil nuts are enough to provide our recommended daily requirement of selenium. This trace element is needed for our immune system, the production of thyroid hormones and a healthy sperm count.
- Gut feeling – give your tummy some TLC by upping your intake of the gut-friendly probiotic bacteria lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. These are found in natural ‘bio’ yogurts and functional yogurt drinks.
