Vinification Details:

The fruit was machine harvested in the cool of night to retain flavour and freshness. Fermented in static fermenters for ten days the wine was gently pressed off skins, to complete alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tank. The wine was then racked and inoculated for malolactic fermentation. Following malolactic fermentation the wine spent 8 months maturation in oak before select parcels were blended and prepared for bottling.

Established in 1836, Houghton is Australia's third oldest winery. It is also the most awarded winery in Western Australia.

Regional Information:

The 2013 vintage was another excellent vintage in Western Australia. The south-west experienced below average winter rainfall largely due to mostly dry conditions in both July and August. In the spring that followed both above average temperatures and rainfall were received. These conditions meant that while berry development was rapid there were adequate water reserves to ensure that the fruit retained flavour and freshness.
