This delicious blend was created from small batches of wine made from hand-picked grapes, which were combined in perfect proportions and aged in French and American oak barrels for 9 months.

It was made in Stellenbosch by Rustenberg Wines, one of South Africa's oldest and most famous wine producers.

Vinification Details:

By harvest, from mid-February to end March, bunches achieved perfect phenolic ripeness with lovely soft, ripe tannins. The berries came in at lovely low sugars due to cool conditions at harvest, awesome colour and great quality berries. Primary fermentation occurred in tanks, followed by Malolactic Fermentation (MLF) and maturation in 2nd fill French and American barrels for 9 months.

Rustenberg wine growing history dates back to 1682. In the early 1800's the estate was split into Rustenberg and Schoongezicht, the latter being rescued in 1892 by John X Merriman. In 1941 Peter and Pamela Barlow bought Rustenberg, later acquiring Schoongezicht and reuniting the properties. Their son Simon took over the running of the farm in 1987. The Barlows have been at Rustenberg for over 60 years: the longest period any one family has owned the farm.

Regional Information:

Vineyards producing the grapes for Rustenberg wines climb the rich red slopes of the Simonsberg and Helderberg. The style of wine determines the vineyard to be used: Rustenberg has a history of success with reds, while fresh, fruity whites come from Nooitgedacht, Simon Barlows other farm overlooking False Bay. A range of slopes and aspects allows site-specific plantings that enhance varietal characteristics.
