Malbec - Red Argentinian Wine
Tahuan wines are 100% varietal from selected old vineyards at the foothill of the Andes Mountains. After fermenting in small tanks, they are aged in American and French barrels for no less than 8 months, and then kept in bottle until ready to be released. These wines best reflect how Mendoza's unique terroir can influence the "varietal" personality.
Sometimes, new, marvelous places produce strong sensations in our mind and body. Such was my good fortune when I first encountered the Tahuantinsuyu, the realm of the Inca culture.
The Incas conquered most of the Andean tribes through commerce and religion, not war. In their quest for union they built a network of roads connecting all the Andean micro-cultures from Quito to Mendoza. It is on one such road that I once dreamed of honoring the culture of the Tahuantinsuyu, "quechua" expression for "The Four Lands United".

The Tahuan Malbec spends 8 months in a combination of French and American oak, and exhibits a dense ruby-purple colour, a full-bodied mouthfeel with a long finish and aromas of blue and black fruits, licorice, camphor and a judicious touch of wood.

This wine undergoes re-fermentative cold maceration for 3 days, with a total maceration time of 21 days. The temperature of fermentation is 28-30 °C. The wine is then aged in oak, 50% French and 50% American, for 8 months, 30% of which is new oak and 40% 2nd and 3rd use.
Tahuan is an abbreviation of “Tahuantinsuyu” which means “the four lands united" in Quechua (an Inca language). We have four varietals, corresponding to the four regions of the Tahuantinsuyu, the Inca empire of the Andes. Each of the varietals are made to best express the unique varietal character of the four widest planted grapes in Mendoza.
The Province of Mendoza is Argentina's largest and most important wine region, where more than 80% of the country's top wines are produced. Situated in the foothills of the Andes, at the western border of Argentina, Mendoza is between the latitudes of 32 and 37 degrees south. Mendoza is as far away from the equator as Napa and many other world class wine regions and has a unique combination of high altitude terrain, desert climate, low humidity and natural irrigation from glacial snowmelt.
This wine is ideal for drinking now but can be kept for up to 3 years
