Semillon Blanc - White Australian Wine
Out of the 18 great wines there was one clear standout chosen; the result is a totally new style of Semillon with lifted aromatics, texture, elegance and length. The wine is fresh, crisp and packed full of tropical fruit
At McGuigan we are passionate about trying to evolve our wine styles to meet the ever changing needs of our customers. With this in mind, I challenged my winemakers to create a new wine style based on the classic Australian variety Semillon. We wanted to retain the vibrant citrus characters naturally low alcohol and great ageing potential of Semillon whilst creating a modern approachable style.

The fruit was crushed, de-stemmed, pressed then immediately clarified. Fermentation proceeded with selected cultured yeast. The fermentation was slow and cool, lasting 2 weeks. Post fermentation the wine was racked off lees then kept on yeast lees for approximately 2 months. Some light fining followed by clarification and stabilisation.
McGuigan Wines was established to celebrate the culmination of 3 generations of wine growing by the McGuigan family. Founder Brian McGuigan adopted the central symbol of the family crest, the lion, to reflect inspiration & the enduring spirit & passion for producing great quality Australian wine. Today Brian's brother, Neil McGuigan, is at the helm of McGuigan Wines & continues the proud family tradition. IWSC Winemaker of the Year-2009/2011/2012 & IWC White Winemaker of the Year-2009/2012/2013
The fruit is selected from vineyards in the Riverland & Murray Darling regions. The climate is hot with high evaporation rates & generally low rainfall making irrigation essential. The climate is also continental, resulting in long sunny days and noticeably cooler nights. Modern viticultural & winemaking techniques mean that the climate can be seen as one of the region's strengths. Long sunshine hours ensure fruit ripens fully & low relative humidity results in little incidence of disease.
