This wine has an intense garnet colour with ruby tints and a pretty transparency. The initial, generous bouquet is of cherry, then after aeration it becomes more complex with hints of toast and more mineral notes of damp earth. Rather dense on the palate with a clean and direct immediate impression, well-balanced. A sappy, precise wine with an incisive finish
|Region of Origin||Burgundy|
|Type of Closure||Natural Cork|
|Wine Maker||Bertrand Straebler|
The harvested grapes are 75% de-stemmed and cold-macerated for 2-3 days to obtain some colour extraction before fermentation. The alcoholic fermentation takes place over 10-12 days, with the cap being punched down twice and the wine pumped over once a day. The secondary, or malolactic fermentation follows, after which the wine matures in oak barrels for 12 months before bottling.
Bertrand Straebler was born in 1963. He became the Winemaker for Labouré-Roi in 1995. “Initially, I modelled my wine by imitating the older, traditional produce. Later, I let my imagination roam, abandoning empirical methods & modelling the vines with the respect they deserve. I always maintained the authentic balance of the landscape & soil. Every year, I work hard to respect what nature entrusts to me & pass on this creative work, to give pleasure to all those who love great Burgundy wines.”
In the heart of the vine-growing area of Côte de Nuits between Beaune and Dijon, Nuits-Saint-Georges covers two sections. In the north towards Vosne Romanée and the valley of La Serré the area is made up of hillsides. In the south stretching to Premeaux, the relief is plateau and plain. The vines cover around 300 hectares and annual production is about 15,000 hectolitres per harvest.
