Dows Quinta Do Bomfim Vintage Port 75Cl
Add to basket
Dow's was one of the first Port houses to invest in the Upper Douro Valley, acquiring in 1896 the Quito do Bomfim near the village pf Pinhâo. Bomfim's 49 hectares (121 acres) of south-facing vineyards, give optimal ripening conditions. The old vines on stone-walled terraces planted by Maurice, John and Ron Symington in the 1920s bring added complexity to the traditional dry finish of Dow's Ports. Bomfim vintage Ports have distinctive aromas of mint and violet with intense concentration and fine peppery tannins. Dow's is owned by the Symington family, Port producers for five generations since 1882, although through their great-grandmother Beatrice, they can trace their Port ancestry back to the 17th century. Today, five members of the Symington family work in the company, responsible for the vineyards and the winemaking of all Dow's Ports. Vintage Port contains a completely natural sediment.

Grapes 100% handpicked. Fermentation took place with natural (wild) yeast at between 26ºC and 30ºC. Once the must reached the desired degree of sweetness (usually within 48 hours), fortification took place with the addition of grape spirit at 77% alcohol by volume. Matured in seasoned oak vessels and bottled without any fining or filtration.
Dow's is owned and managed by the fourth generation of the Symington family, Port producers since the 19th Century. The family, whose experience dates back over 100 years, supervises all the vineyards, winemaking and ageing of this wine. Dow's owns two of the Douro's finest Quintas, Senhora da Ribeira and Bomfim. They were acquired in 1890 and 1896, making Dow's one of the first houses to invest in premium vineyards.
Bomfim is a classic ‘River Quinta' with several natural advantages: it is south-facing ensuring ideal exposure to the sun; its stony schist soil affords excellent drainage, allowing water to reach the vine's deep roots; the annual average rainfall is near perfect at 800mm; the altitude ranges from 120 to 340 metres above sea level, accommodating both gentle gradients lower down and progressively steeper slopes higher up the valley side.
This wine can be drunk now but will further improve if carefully stored for up to 10 + years
