Green Clubcard Points

If you’ve been a Clubcard member for some time, you’ll be used to all the great savings and special offers they can help you make the most of. But did you know you could also top up your points by looking after the environment too?

Enjoy a Green Clubcard Points boost
We’ve always known living greener lifestyles involves making small but steady changes, so we’re giving away points to Tesco Clubcard members for making some of these small changes. Whether it’s reusing your shopping bags or recycling your used inkjet cartridges, you can enjoy extra points on your Clubcard for putting the environment first.

Green Clubcard Points are just like standard Clubcard Points, but we call them ‘Green’ because we award them for certain activities that benefit the environment. You can redeem them in exactly the same way as standard Clubcard Points, and they are worth the same amount, too.

One way you can collect Green Clubcard Points is by reusing bags in-store, rather than taking new ones – we’ll give you at least one point for each bag reused, depending on its size. They don’t even have to be Tesco bags – Asda, Sainsbury’s or the-shop-down-the-road; it doesn’t matter – as long as you’re reusing them when you shop with us you get the points.

Our aim is to cut the amount of plastic bags used by our customers, and as a result reduce the number of bags going into landfill each year and the resources and energy needed to make them. And with over 2 billion bags saved since we started the scheme, we’re making steps in the right direction.

Mobile Phone Recycling
But that’s not the only way you can earn Green Clubcard Points. According to the latest estimates there are 11,250 tonnes of mobile phones lying forgotten in people’s drawers all around the country. And when you consider that around 80% of the materials in them are recyclable, you realise what a lot a waste that represents. That’s why we’re giving away 300 points (or, should you choose, £3 to Marie Curie Cancer Care) for every working mobile phone you recycle with us. Even if it doesn’t work, we’ll still give you 50 points (or 50p to Marie Curie Cancer Care).

To use the scheme just pop into your local store and pick up a pre-paid, pre-addressed envelope, fill in your details and post it, Freepost, to the recycling company. Or you can send it freepost using any envelope.

Mobile Phone Recycling online
We have also recently launched an online mobile recycling scheme at www.tescomobilerecycle.com.  You will still collect 300 Green Clubcard Points or a £3 charity donation for every working phone you recycle, but you could also receive an additional £1 to £70 in Tesco Mobile airtime or Tesco gift cards for selected handsets.

Inkjet Cartridge Recycling
You can also earn Green Clubcard Points for recycling your inkjet cartridges. And with 30 million being thrown away in the UK every year we’re discarding precious resources. In fact what we throw away in ink cartridges alone takes 1,425,000 litres of oil to produce! Recycle them with Tesco and we’ll give you 100 Green Clubcard Points for each one or you can choose to donate £1 to Marie Curie Cancer Care. Either way, the environment still ends up a winner.

Simply pick up a Freepost envelope in store, or go to The Recycling Factory to request an envelope.

*Please note: although all inkjet cartridges will be recycled, points/donations can only be given for cartridges that work in certain printers. See if your cartridge qualifies.
