We're now getting a plentiful supply of eggs.
Did you know?
Boiled is the most popular way of cooking eat eggs, followed by scrambled and fried.
Lucy and the family start getting creative with their daily supply of eggs…
Recently, I attended a course on questioning and guidance techniques. One of the questioning techniques was called ‘preferred futures’, where you visualise how things could be better if the main issue was no longer there. This got me thinking about my current situation as a keen cook with no kitchen.
Instead of dwelling on the lack of facilities, no water downstairs, our dishwasher in the garden etc. We have chosen to focus on our preferred future: being able to cook wonderful things for our friends and family – mainly with our chicken’s eggs.
Bless them. They are keeping us all going with their cheery clucking and daily production of eggs. As soon as we get downstairs, we go and see the chickaloos, collect the eggs and make sure that through the building-work chaos we still manage to rustle up a delicious breakfast.
Despite limited cooking facilities, we have not once cooked our eggs in the microwave, as I think that that spoils the taste somehow, so we’re poaching, frying and scrambling.
It’s all turning into a bit of a family competition, with categories such as fastest three-egg omelette (thanks to James Martin for the idea), best breakfast, and best cake or pudding (my worst category!).
The kids have been watching cookery programmes and researching recipes, while Matt has been secretly unpacking boxes looking for cookery books, and asking his Mum for tips.
Game on, I say! Looks like our preferred future is definitely feathered!
