  • Thank you, Tesco

I really only got into walking this year, and decided to join the Ramblers for some good company and for introduction to some new walks. I was very pleased that Tesco vouchers allowed me to do this in a very economical way! The whole process was very simple; I ordered online with Tesco, a voucher arrived in the post with a membership form, which I sent off to the Rambers and got my membership card and first magazine a week later! Simples! The Ramblers website is fabulous; informative, clear, nice to read and engaging; there are 100's of group walks to choose from, many in my local area, and I have met a great group of people. I would recommend membership to anyone; thanks, Tesco!

  • The Ramblers has been a waste of Tesco Vouchers

Going on organised walks should be good for my health. Plus I would also like to make a few more friends. I have some health problems, principally insomnia, that makes it difficult for me to get out very early in the morning. However, in nearly five months including next month December 20014 of being a member there hasn't been one walk I can get to by public transport. Virtually, all the walks I've been notified of either by the magazine, by my local branch or on the website start around 10 am. It's about this time I am only really able to get out. So I am still waiting to go on my first walk. I am looking to go on a leisurely walk of between 1½ and 3 hours. If there were some walks that start at a more sensible time of noon even in the height of winter surely there would be sufficient time to complete such walks. If there've been any I haven't seen them. In London I've noticed some walks around 7 pm but I don't particularly want to go out walking at night. Even if I did not have these health problems I'm retired; I like to lay in of a morning. Having to get out around 7.30 to 8 am in order to get to some of the walks is the sort of time I used to have to start for work!!!! I am unable to give zero stars, so one star for the magazine.

  • Join the Ramblers
    By TynesideRambler02 July 2014aged 55 to 64Female

I joined the Tyneside Ramblers 14 yrs ago and would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in walking. Whether you are single, a couple or a group of friends you will be made very welcome. The big advantage of our group is that we travel by coach so are able to go much further afield than if you car share. I have used my Tesco vouchers to renew my annual membership for the last few years, and have found it a very easy and efficient method of renewal; which also saves me money. If you are interested in joining a very friendly organisation and walking in beautiful areas of northern England then do not hesitate to join us.

  • Walking with the Ramblers
    By Toots7709 June 2014aged 45 to 54Female

We are being told through media that walking is good for us, it boosts our fitness, can work wonders clearing your mind after a day in work and helps beat stress. There are 100's of group walks for all ages and all abilities. I have received a warm welcome from all Ramblers groups I have joined for a walk. In addition, there are walking routes on-line if you feel more adventurous and want to head out on your own. Ramblers also campaign to keep footpaths accessible and open to the public. Many groups organise working parties to help clear overgrown paths or build new stiles or gates, even to build boardwalks on marshy footpaths. Many outdoor clothing shops give discounts and Cotswold give 15% discount to ramblers members who show their membership card at the till.
