For a fantastic family day out, visit the Scottish Mining Museum. You'll discover what it meant to be a miner, and come face to face with some of the monstrous mining equipment that was once used.
What you get
There's so much to see at the Scottish Mining Museum thanks to the sheer scale of the place. From interactive exhibits for kids, to guided pithead tours for real authenticity, you can experience the lot for less when you exchange Clubcard vouchers.
Simply exchange £5 in vouchers and you'll receive £20 back in tokens to put towards admission costs at the Scottish Mining Museum. From there, the place is yours to enjoy.
At the museum you'll begin by learning about the very conception of coal 360 million years ago. You'll learn how humans tried to extract it from the earth back in the 13th Century compared to those methods used today.
Then take a tour round a working pithead, led by an ex-miner who will explain what working conditions were like before you experience them all for yourself with the sights, sounds and smells of the real life coal mine you're standing in.
Elsewhere there's the Mining Mechanics and Interactive Zone, specifically aimed at kids, where hands-on activity is the name of the game. Build a bridge, create electricity, operate pulleys and levers, or have a go on the in-house Nintendo Wii - your children will definitely love this part of the experience.
Moving on through the museum you'll encounter loads more including the largest winding wheel in Scotland and the bi-weekly Big Stuff Mining Machinery Tour where you can observe 40ft coal shearers, underground carriages, locomotives and more mining tools and accessories. Finally, the Mini Miners soft play area is perfect for smaller kids.

•You must exchange your Clubcard vouchers for tokens, Clubcard vouchers will not be accepted by the supplier.
•Tokens are not transferable and will be issued with the name shown on your Clubcard vouchers and may be printed with your postcode.

• Unused, expired and redeemed tokens issued after 13th August 2012 cannot be refunded, exchanged or returned. This does not affect your statutory rights.
