Summer craft ideas

Stuck for ideas on how to entertain your tot this summer? As well as being fun, these craft activities will help develop skills including hand control and concentration.

Sunflowers

Get your tot to scrunch torn tissue into balls

1. Help your toddler paint a paper plate yellow and paint a wooden spoon green. 2. Cut all around the outside of the plate to create the petals.
3. Get your tot to scrunch torn tissue into balls and stick them onto the centre of the sunflower, using glue, to create the seeds.
4. Cut out two leaf shapes from a green foam sheet or stiff card.
5. Your child can help you attach the flower and leaves to the wooden spoon with sticky tape.

You will need:
Paper plate
Wooden spoon
Paint – yellow and green
Paintbrush
Scissors
Tissue paper – orange
Glue
Sheet of foam or card – green
Sticky tape

Butterfly footprints

1. Put down a ground sheet then paint the soles of your child’s feet one at a time. (Paint hands if you prefer.)
2. Get your tot to step on a piece of card to make a print. The left foot (or hand) becomes the butterfly’s right wing, the right one becomes the left wing.
3. Add a body and feelers with finger paint.
4. Decorate with stickers when dry.

You will need:
Ground sheet
Card
Paint
Stickers or craft gems

Ladybird paperweight

1. Help your tot paint a large pebble red.
2. When dry, add the head, wings and spots in black paint.
3. Get your tot to stick on googly eyes.

You will need:
Stone or pebble
Paint – red or black
Paintbrush
Googly eyes
