Expert tip

To keep your play dough in good condition, place it in a sealed plastic bag or container and pop it in the fridge, ready to use next time.

Make your own play dough

Playing with dough will keep your toddler occupied for ages. Making it together extends the fun even longer (and saves money)!

You will need:

  • 250g plain flour
  • 50g salt
  • 140ml water
  • Food colouring
  • 2 tbsp oil

Steps to make play dough

Step 1

Step 1

Mix together the dry ingredients in a saucepan, then add the water and food colouring (bear in mind this will stain a wooden spoon), mixing until smooth.

Step 2

Step 2

Add the oil, and knead well until the dough leaves the sides of the pan and forms into a ball.

Step 3

Step 3

Wait for it to cool before use. Use a wipe-clean mat or PVC tablecloth to avoid staining your table. Then get out the cookie cutters and a rolling pin and away you go!
