It’s easier, cheaper and more relaxed – no wonder most of you are planning to holiday in the UK this summer.
Our survey of Club mums found that just over a third of you will be going abroad for a summer vacation, with the rest planning a family break somewhere in the UK.
It’s a pity you can’t guarantee the weather, but those of you staying in the UK say budgets are just too tight to go abroad this year – plus it’s much easier to plan a break and travel with young children when you don’t have to deal with airports and flights.
However, Club mums jetting off to other countries listed sunny weather, seeing friends and family and enjoying different culture and food as their top reasons for leaving the UK this summer. Spain was the most popular choice, but other destinations included America, Portugal, France, Turkey and Greece.
We’re all going on a British summer holiday
Nearly a quarter of our Club mums said they hadn’t yet planned or booked their summer holiday – if you’re still deciding where to go, check out our favourite British seaside holidays.
Wells has everything a family with young children could want, including picture-perfect beach huts; a long, sandy, dune-bordered beach; pine woods; a quay with pretty boats; plus a miniature steam train that takes you to the beach.
Brighton, East Sussex
Brighton has an enviably bustling seafront; a Palace Pier with tot-friendly funfair; a Royal Pavilion that looks like something out of a Disney movie; plus loads of shopping opportunities in the Lanes and North Laine areas.
St Ives, Cornwall
This seaside town, once a sleepy fishing village beloved of artists, has it all: three beaches, great surfing, a pretty harbour, an enticing selection of shops plus there’s a host of activities for kids at the Tate, a Treasure Park to explore and lots more!
A family favourite for generations – hardly surprising when you consider the seven miles of award-winning, white sandy beach, famously mild micro-climate, buzzy café culture and Oceanarium. You can even hire a beach hut to use as your base for long lazy days by the sea.
Known for its Tower, Illuminations, Pleasure Beach and kiss-me-quick hats, Blackpool has been thrilling holidaymakers since the railway arrived in the 1840s. Find family fun at the waterpark, the zoo and Sealife centre.
