National Breastfeeding Awareness Week

Who's your breast buddy?
The Department of Health’s National Breastfeeding Awareness Week, from 11th-17th May, is being marked with the launch of the Breast Buddy initiative. Fronted by ex-Atomic Kitten Jenny Frost – who had her baby Caspar last October – the idea is for mums to nominate a family member or friend, who they can call on for support should breastfeeding get tough (although this isn’t intended to replace professional advice).
Mum and buddy will receive free texts of encouragement in the first few months, and an info pack. Register for Breast Buddy by texting BUDDY to 60022, or call the National Breastfeeding Helpline on 0844 209 0929.
As Jenny Frost says: “I loved breastfeeding, but there were hard times. It really helps to have support so you can keep going. Having recently had a baby of my own, I understand how valuable a bit of extra help is, in addition to that offered by your midwife or health visitor,”
Breast friendly
The Department of Health will also be highlighting Breastfeeding Friendly Places during National Breastfeeding Awareness Week. Across the UK, shops, supermarkets and shopping centres across the country are supporting the week by being Breastfeeding Friendly. Find out more here.
