Codorníu 1551 Vintage Cava Brut 2011, Spain, 11.5%
Codorníu is one of the brightest names in Cava and this crisp, citrus-scented fizz is made from a blend of Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo- With fresh lemon flavours, this makes a great apéritif, but is even better paired with a plate of cold meats.
Mar del Sur Sauvignon Blanc 2012, Chile, 12.5%
Chilean Sauvignon Blanc is fast becoming a classic, and with good reason- This one is zippy and fresh with wonderful citrus flavours and a fantastic twist of tropical fruit- A brilliant match for smoked salmon, or simply on its own as a pre-dinner treat.
The Post Sauvignon Blanc 2012, New Zealand, 12%
Hailing from the sunny, dry Marlborough region of New Zealand’s South Island, this wine is fresh, vibrant and bursting with crisp gooseberry and zingy grapefruit flavours- Really versatile, this works with nibbles or with fish or light chicken dishes.
Poggio al Sale Chianti Classico 2009, Italy, 13%
Made from grapes grown in vineyards in the Chianti Classico regions (note the symbolic black cockerel on the neck of the bottle), this ranks highly in the quality stakes, with complex black cherry flavours and gentle spice- It’s a great match for slow-cooked stews.
Coquimbo Estates Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2010, Chile, 14%
A top reserva made from premium Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown in the Maipo Valley- This region produces bold, elegant wines like this one, with plum and mocha aromas alongside rich blackcurrant flavours- Teams effortlessly with steaks.
Faustino Rivero Rioja Crianza 2009, Spain, 13%
A stylish, velvet-soft red with real richness, mellow black fruits and a touch of nutmeg-This is a Crianza wine, which means it has been aged for at least two years including time spent in oak barrels, adding weight and depth- Particularly good with lamb dishes.
