Clear and intense purple red in colour; this full-bodied, dry, wine is mellow and velvety on the palate, with a long finish and an excellent balance.

To enjoy this wine at its best, drink within 3 years of purchase.
Known as the ‘Barolo of southern Italy’, this big, muscular, beautifully structured red from the Basilicata region is a beast in a bottle – complex and rich with layered dark-berry flavours, spices and a hint of violets. Cerbero was the mythical three-headed guard dog in Hades, with the same force of nature and tenacity as its wine namesake. Absolutely demands food, especially red meats.
The Aglianico grapes were first brought to Italy by the Greeks. The wine was nambed "Cerbero" after "Cerberus" from the Greek mythology, a 3-headed dog, guard of Hades, recalling its force and tenacity.
NC
The Aglianico del Vulture grapes are selected from the calcareus hills of Vulture. The wine made from this native grape is considered as one of the best Italian wines and is defined, thanks to its winemaking style and taste as the "Barolo of South Italy."

This wine was unknown to me until I purchased a "mixed "case for Christmas.Since then I have bought a further six bottles. I particularly enjoy the layered flavours which contrast fruit, spice and hints of the volcanic terroire. A wine to enjoy with or without food and really excellent value.

I really liked this wine. Shame it is not on sale more often. Not too dry and not too sweet. Very drinkable.

Excellent value for money, this Aglianico has weight, complexity and character. One bottle, from the case, was not quite right, however.

This is a wine that is compared to the better known Borolo and I guess it at £8 a bottle one can hardly complain I will leave others to wax lyrical about how it tastes, it is a good wine for the price, yes full bodied just be sure to have it with a rare steak, rare roast beef or even a beef stew. If you like easy to drink wines like much of that comes from the like of Australia, then this is not for you. If you like a good Borolo, then try it, I think you will like it.

I also opened the first of I think 12 that I order, fantastic! Second, clearly not right! Next, somewhere in between! Really powerful smell but I can not identify it. Not corked i.e. bacterial but strange. Let it breath for hours and this did subside a little but I am left a little uncertain about the whole thing! If they were all the same as the first I would have bought a few more dozen!

I purchased this wine on the strength of the grape, it can be great but is still not seen in this country often which is a shame. My first case and the first bottle out was superb all that this grape can deliver and I immediately ordered another case on the strength of that bottle, things then went downhill the second bottle ended up down the sink not corked but tainted and the rest of that case was variable in the extreme, the second case was better but still varied far to much and none matched that first bottle. Bottle variation is normally caused by extremes of temperature in either transport or warehousing which it was in this case I have no idea but it ruined what was as depicted by the first bottle out a very good wine impossible to recommend on the basis of not knowing what you will recieve, you could get lucky ?

This is quite some wine. In the bottle for several years, a rare grape local to Vulture in the South of Italy, biggish alcohol, meaty density, love the colour and the nose, I'm am a big fan of perfumed Italians! Why not the complete 5* stars then? Don't know really. I have one bottle left from a case bought a few months back and I'd have to give it one last go to see if it could get there. I like it a lot the problem being it is never so cheap even when on offer. I have to be well flush to frivilously chuck another 6 on the order. I notice that other wines from Italy that for once have been discounted big are selling out. Is this because they are so well liked or because of a massive reduction? If there's a need to move on some Cerbero and give more folk a chance to check it out cheaply, well........

This is an excellent wine. It tastes of rich berry fruits and is extremely smooth on the palette. It works just as well served with red meats as rich pasta dishes, but can also be enjoyed on its own or with a spot of cheese. This is a quality wine at a very reasonable price. I would certainly buy this wine again and would happily serve it to discerning dinner guests. Highly recommended!!
