Tasting Notes

A top-quality Sauvignon Blanc from the Touraine region of the Loire Valley, this is a wonderfully refreshing and well-balanced wine- The suggestions of citrus and fresh herbs, with a tantalising hint of minerality, make it a natural partner for seafood, fish or poultry.

Background

History

Maison des Princes takes its name from the many glorious chateaux that line the length of the majestic river Loire. Founded in 1811, Ackerman is based in Saumur at the heart of the Loire Valley. It is superbly placed to supply wines from Muscadet, Anjou, Touraine, Vouvray, Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé and also specialises in Sparkling Wines. In fact, Jean Ackerman pioneered the Traditional Method in the region and for 40 years in the early 19th Century his was the only company producing such wines.

Regional info

Famous for its natural beauty, magnificent châteaux and picturesque towns, the Loire Valley is rich in history and culture. Vines are grown pretty much everywhere from its mouth near Nantes to the famous Appellations of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé near the centre of France. The length of the river, and the varied soils and climate of the valley, make the Loire Valley home to definitive expressions of some of the world’s most popular varietals, including Sauvignon Blanc.

I was looking through the the Sauvignons on offer online and this one was presented, thought we'd give it a go, our chance choice was rewarded, this was very enjoyable, it doesnt have the depth of elderberry that the Villa Maria has (however some find the VM too strong) however it was very palatable, no issues at all, would choose this again and would recommend it if you are a sauvignon blanc fan.

This is a nice drinking very subtle wine, not too powerful in taste but eough. It has a very nice varital finish and improves in the mouth as you give it more airing. Easy to think it is the taste of the flowers of the French countryside in summer. Even my wife likes it!. IIt is very good value for money which one hesitates to say as there will probablly be none left when I come to buy it again. Still Christmas is all about sharing isnt it?

Order this wine on a regular basis. A great value sauvignon - a pleasant dry white wine that is not too fruity like some of the new world sauvignons.

Sauvignon Blanc is my favourite white wine and this one doesn't disappoint. It has a mild "roselike" aroma with a hint of sweetness, but not too much, and the typical refreshing zingyness that makes for easy drinking on its own. I also enjoy it with any seafood or omelets but especially with crackers and Blue Stilton.

A contrast to New Zealand Sauvignon

A crisp delicate Sauvignon really good as an everyday glass of win (it retains its freshness so it can be opened and kept in the fridge for a couple of days) or as a party drink with canapes and friends. it is very different in style to New Zealand Sauvignons - less evidently fruity with more core strength and a softer- less acidic finish.

Disappointingly average. Not full flavoured and long enough. Very drinkable for an everyday wine but there are many much better, tastier wines on offer for this price or less

A good wine for the price

We love a good, fruity Sauvignon Blanc and whilst this grape is mostly found on supermarket shelves as a New Zealand or Chile wine, the heartier and most flavoursome wines are from the Loire valley. This one is crisp and excellent with pasta, (even with Thai food it tastes superb). For the price, and with wines you mostly get what you pay for, this is a very good Loire sauvignon - recommended.

A fine Sauvignon Blanc from France

A well balanced Sauvignon from the Loire region. Drier than a New Zealand example with a good balance between acidity and smoothness. Wonderful flavours of gooseberry, perfect with seafood and white meat or refreshing as an evening tipple. Great value thanks Tesco.
